With a long tradition of carpets, China has one of the richest histories in carpet production, dating back to over 2,000 years where rugs were used to furnish imperial courts. China revolutionised its carpet industry between 15th to 17th centuries by introducing the art of carpet knotting. Chinese rugs are produced so they are thick but are very soft and flexible in feel.
Chinese carpets’ designs reflect the patterns and designs seen on some of the oldest monuments and Chinese arts from palaces to porcelains, the religious symbols could also be seen within the patterns including the dragons which sometimes illustrate the Buddhist and Taoism origins.
